30,000 visitors at "State Opera for All" in Berlin

The 20th edition of "Staatsoper für alle" (State Opera for All) in Berlin attracted more than 30,000 visitors, the opera house announced on Sunday. On Saturday evening, the Staatsoper broadcast its performance of Giuseppe Verdi's "Nabucco," conducted by Francesco Lanzillotta, live onto a large screen in Bebelplatz. The following morning, the opera's children's orchestra, conducted by Giuseppe Mentuccia, performed works by Jacques Offenbach and Jules Massenet outdoors. In the afternoon, the Staatskapelle Berlin and General Music Director Christian Thielemann performed Beethoven's Symphony No. 6 and the overtures to "Coriolan" and "Egmont" in the same location.

State Opera Director Elisabeth Sobotka said she was delighted that Bebelplatz had once again been transformed into a vibrant place for shared artistic experiences, inspiring so many Berliners and visitors from around the world. "In its 20th edition, 'State Opera for All' demonstrates how unifying music can be and the special power of making opera and concerts freely accessible to everyone in the heart of Berlin."

Since 2007, the Berlin State Opera Unter den Linden has hosted concerts and live-streamed performances every summer at Bebelplatz in the city center. These free events attract tens of thousands of visitors each year. "State Opera for All" is scheduled for June 12th and 13th, 2027.
