New artistic director for the Brandenburg State Orchestra

The orchestra director of the Brandenburg State Orchestra Frankfurt (BSOF) will become the ensemble's new artistic director. The Swiss-born Senn will take over the position for the 2027/28 season, the state's Ministry of Culture and the city administration of Frankfurt (Oder) announced on Thursday. Senn succeeds Roland Ott, who has led the orchestra since 2018. Until his official appointment, Senn will work alongside Ott as a transitional phase.

With Senn, born in St. Gallen in 1991, the BSOF gains a director "who can give the orchestra new impetus with his strategic expertise and communication skills," said Brandenburg's Minister of Culture, Manja Schüle (SPD). Senn and the designated General Music Director, Felix Mildenberger, form a dynamic leadership duo that represents a new beginning.

Frankfurt's Mayor Axel Strasser (independent) sees the election of the new artistic director as a crucial step for the orchestra's future. Senn is familiar with the BSOF and wants to further strengthen its ties to Frankfurt and the surrounding region. "His work combines an awareness of the orchestra's tradition and excellence with a clear commitment to new, including interdisciplinary, formats. This opens up innovative approaches to classical music," Strasser emphasized.

Senn studied music theory, composition, and music education at the Zurich University of the Arts and subsequently completed an Executive Master of Arts at the University of Zurich, specializing in cultural management and leadership. Before moving to Frankfurt (Oder), he was, among other things, managing director and artistic director of the Höri Music Days festival on Lake Constance, and worked for various cultural institutions and festivals in the areas of concert planning, production, and project development.

The designated artistic director thanked everyone for their confidence. "It is particularly important to me to further deepen the orchestra's close connection to the people in the city and the region, to inspire new audiences for orchestral music, and to make the BSOF a tangible, diverse, and committed cultural institution," he said.
