German conductor Katharina Morin will be awarded this year's Deutschlandfunk Prize for highly gifted young artists. The broadcaster and the Bremen Music Festival award on Monday. The jury stated that Morin's conducting opens up a space for the musicians to freely express themselves and engage in attentive collaboration. "She seems to effortlessly fuse the orchestra, choir, and vocal soloists into a cohesive, dialogic sound. Calm yet highly focused, serene yet refreshing, she guides the ensembles through the works. She possesses the gift of making quick and precise adjustments to the sound and composition with natural confidence. She is equally at home with choral works as she is with symphonic pieces and increasingly with music theater," the jury explained.

The award ceremony for Morin will take place on August 23rd at the Bremen concert hall "Die Glocke". The award includes a CD production and a performance at the Bremen Music Festival next year.

The Deutschlandfunk Advancement Award has been jointly awarded by the festival and the radio station since 1998. Previous recipients include violinists Julia Fischer and Patricia Kopatchinskaja, cellist Leonard Elschenbroich, percussionist Simone Rubino, and last year's recipient, organist Jan Liebermann.
