Matthias Pintscher remains chief conductor in Kansas City

German conductor and composer Matthias Pintscher will remain chief conductor of the Kansas City Symphony Orchestra (KCS) for another five years. His contract has been extended through the 2033/34 season, the orchestra announced Tuesday evening (local time). "We couldn't be more thrilled to continue working with him," said Danny Beckley, president and CEO of the Kansas City Symphony, which was founded in 1982.

Since taking office as the fifth music director of the Kansas City Symphony Orchestra (KCS) in 2024, Pintscher has been instrumental in shaping a bold artistic direction for the 80-member ensemble, it was stated. Under his leadership, the orchestra's influence in Kansas City will be further deepened, while the institution's reputation on the international stage will be strengthened. Last season, the KCS secured a place among the top 20 orchestras in the USA and performed more than 340 concerts, "more than any other American orchestra." At the end of August, the ensemble will embark on its second European tour since 2024, with concerts in Amsterdam, Hamburg, and Berlin.

Pintscher expressed his gratitude for the trust placed in him by the musicians, the orchestra's board, the staff, and the community of Kansas City. "I look forward to continuing our collaboration with curiosity, energy, and a shared sense of purpose and belonging to inspire this community," said the 55-year-old.
