Mini Mozarts stolen - exhibition ends prematurely

An exhibition of Mozart sculptures in Salzburg has been prematurely closed. Of the 230 figures in the Mirabell Gardens, 210 have gone missing, the Mozarteum Foundation announced on Wednesday. Due to the manufacturer's summer break, it was not possible to replace the sculptures and restore the installation.

Mozart sculpture installation

With the installation "Mozart – The Indomitable Genius," the Mozarteum Foundation wanted to celebrate the 270th birthday of composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. For this purpose, the German conceptual artist Ottmar Hörl designed gold-colored Mozart figures, approximately 50 centimeters tall. A total of 320 figures made of weatherproof plastic were placed on lawns in the Mirabell Gardens, in the garden of the Mozarteum, and in Mozart's former residence.

The exhibition opened on July 15th and was scheduled to run until August 30th. Afterwards, the mini-Mozarts were to be offered for sale.
