Martha Argerich honored with Salzburg Festival pin
Pianist Martha Argerich has been awarded the Salzburg Festival Pin with Rubies. The organizers announced this on Monday. The festival's directorate and concert director Axel Hiller presented the award to the artist after her concert with Renaud Capuçon last Friday.

Award of the Salzburg Festival Pin to Martha Argerich
"We are grateful that Martha Argerich has been associated with us as a festival artist for 55 years," declared Kristina Hammer, Karin Bergmann and Lukas Crepaz from the directorate, as well as Hiller. "The grande dame of piano playing makes each of her concerts a singular, stellar moment."
The Buenos Aires-born pianist made her debut at the Salzburg Festival in 1971, performing with the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra of Prague under the direction of Claudio Abbado. Argerich is particularly acclaimed for her interpretations of virtuosic piano compositions from the 19th and 20th centuries.
The Festival Pin has already been awarded to artists such as Christa Ludwig, Jürgen Flimm, Riccardo Muti, Anne-Sophie Mutter, Mariss Jansons, Franz Welser-Möst, Wolfgang Rihm and András Schiff.
