The Berlin Music Festival attracted 53,240 visitors to its 22nd edition. This is a new record, the organizers announced on Thursday. Audiences enjoyed 34 events at the Philharmonie, the Konzerthaus, the Deutsche Oper, and the Haus der Berliner Festspiele. The previous record was over 50,000 visitors in 2024, while last year saw just over 49,000 attendees.

"Le Grand Macabre"

This year's music festival program was dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the Berlin Festival. It presented more than 60 works by some 40 composers, including semi-staged music theater such as György Ligeti's opera "Le Grand Macabre" with the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Helsinki Chamber Choir at the opening. During the nearly four weeks, several world premieres were performed, including the newly discovered work "La Sainte Face" by Yvonne Loriod, conducted by the WDR Symphony Orchestra under Kent Nagano. In addition to the major Berlin orchestras, ensembles from England, Japan, Austria, Switzerland, the USA, and Germany also performed.

The Berlin Philharmonic, the German Symphony Orchestra, the Konzerthausorchester Berlin, and the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra, along with international guests, kick off their new seasons with the music festival. The next music festival begins on August 28, 2027.
