Hermes Helfricht remains Erfurt's General Music Director
Hermes Helfricht will remain General Music Director at the Theater Erfurt. As the theater announced on Friday, the Erfurt City Council has officially confirmed the conductor's appointment for the period from 2027 to 2032. Helfricht already holds the position with a contract from July 2025 to July 2027, succeeding Chief Conductor Alexander Prior.

For the long-term appointment to the position starting in summer 2027, the Theater Erfurt initiated a comprehensive selection process. Six candidates were invited from among the applicants for auditions and interviews, including Helfricht.
Born in Radebeul in 1992, he previously served as Second Kapellmeister at the Theater Erfurt during the 2015/16 season. He currently also conducts the Beethoven Orchestra Bonn, the Mecklenburg State Orchestra Schwerin, the Würzburg Philharmonic Orchestra, the Hagen Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Württemberg Philharmonic Reutlingen. Since the 2025/26 season, he has also been Chief Conductor of the Elbland Philharmonic Saxony.
