New manager for the Bavarian Radio Choir
The Bavarian Radio Choir will have a new manager. Martina Elmer will take over the position on November 1, 2026, the broadcaster announced on Tuesday. The Austrian will succeed Susanne Vongries, who is retiring after 26 years in the role.

Martina Elmer
Elmer joins from the Budapest Festival Orchestra, where she has headed artistic programming and tour planning since May 2025. Prior to that, she worked for eight years as a concert consultant at the Salzburg Festival, where she was responsible, among other things, for developing the youth program "jung & jeder" (young & everyone), which was launched for the 2020/21 anniversary season.
Born in Salzburg in 1989, Elmer studied musicology/clarinet, business administration, and music and cultural management in Klagenfurt, Mexico City, and Munich. As manager of the Bavarian Radio Choir (BR-Chor), she will be responsible for the ensemble's personnel and organizational management. Together with artistic director Peter Dijkstra, she will shape the artistic direction and further develop existing and new formats. She will also play a key role in program and scheduling planning, as well as in managing productions and guest performances.
