The complete facade of Düsseldorf's Tonhalle concert hall is to undergo further renovation. The city council approved the second phase of construction on Thursday, granting funding of approximately €34.9 million. Work is scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2027. The construction period is planned to last 38 months, with completion targeted for the second quarter of 2030. Concert operations at the Tonhalle will continue throughout the construction period.

Since November 2025, work has been carried out on the masonry joints, natural stone elements, and seals, as well as the windows of the west facade. In addition, the drinking water and wastewater systems in the administration wing have been renewed. During the summer break of 2025, work had already been carried out inside the concert hall.

"With this renovation, we are making a sustainable investment in the preservation of one of our city's most important cultural buildings," said Deputy Mayor for Culture Miriam Koch. The Tonhalle, built in 1926, is an outstanding concert venue and, at the same time, a landmark building. "It is therefore all the more important to secure its historical structure for the long term and, at the same time, maintain the conditions for reliable performances."
