The managing director of the Rhine Opera will leave in 2027

Alexandra Stampler-Brown, managing director of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein Düsseldorf Duisburg (DOR), will let her contract expire in the summer of 2027. After 13 "very fulfilling and exciting seasons," she has decided to pursue new professional challenges, the opera house announced on Monday.

Alexandra Stampler-Brown

The Austrian-born Stampler-Brown served as Managing Director of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein (DOR) from summer 2014 to spring 2025, sharing the role of co-CEO. Since the departure of General Director Christoph Meyer, she has been the sole Managing Director. "The Deutsche Oper am Rhein is a unique institution with wonderful people," said Stampler-Brown. She continues to support the new artistic director, Ina Karr. "I deeply regret that our collaboration is coming to an end."

The mayors of Düsseldorf and Duisburg, Stephan Keller (CDU) and Sören Link (SPD), thanked the managing director for her dedication to the theater community of the two cities. "She has guided the theater through exceptionally demanding challenges on a solid financial foundation and advanced important developments on various levels," said Keller. "Her business and legal experience, her musical background, and her commitment to the people and the artistic work at the theater have strengthened the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in a lasting way," added Link.

The position of managing director will be advertised shortly, and the shareholders will begin the selection process for a successor as soon as possible, it was announced. The Deutsche Oper am Rhein has existed since 1956.
