Pianist Oleg Maisenberg has died

Pianist Oleg Maisenberg has died. He passed away on Thursday afternoon, as announced by the Vienna Konzerthaus. Maisenberg's artist agency also wrote on its website: "We mourn the loss of Oleg Maisenberg." The musician would have turned 81 in a few days.

Oleg Maisenberg (1945 - 2026)

Born in Odessa, Ukraine, Maisenberg lived in Vienna from 1981 onwards. He gave piano recitals and performed with major orchestras such as the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, the Philadelphia Orchestra, the London Symphony Orchestra, the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra of Moscow. He also played with chamber ensembles and was a musical partner of Robert Holl, Hermann Prey, Heinz Holliger, Sabine Meyer , Sir András Schiff, Renaud and Gautier Capuçon, and, for decades, Gidon Kremer.

The artist was also active as an educator. From 1985 to 1998, he was a professor at the Stuttgart University of Music and Performing Arts and subsequently at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. For his work, he received, among other honors, the Austrian Cross of Honour for Science and Art, First Class (2005).

Oleg Maisenberg performed at the Vienna Konzerthaus 121 times between 1981 and 2019. He was awarded honorary membership of the Vienna Konzerthaus Society in 1995. "We will remember Oleg Maisenberg with honor," the Konzerthaus stated.
