cantus firmus vocal ensemble & consort

cantus firmus vocal ensemble & consort

The cantus firmus vocal ensemble & consort was founded in the spring of 2001 by conductor Andreas Reize. With a focus on the Baroque and Classical periods, the ensemble's repertoire extends into the early Romantic era. The concerts of the cantus firmus vocal ensemble & consort have been enthusiastically received by both audiences and critics. The vocal ensemble comprises professional singers. It is characterized by small ensemble sizes for each voice part, which allows for maximum flexibility. A particular focus of their work is Baroque music. The vocal ensemble aims to perform masterpieces in their original small-scale versions, based on source studies. The cantus firmus consort – an orchestra playing period instruments – consists of instrumentalists who, even during their training, engaged intensively with the principles of historical performance practice and gained experience in internationally renowned early music ensembles. The ensemble's instrumentation and instrumentation are adapted to the performance requirements of repertoire spanning from the 17th century to the early Romantic period. The Consort performs both as an independent ensemble and as a complementary partner to the cantus firmus vocal ensemble.

Since its founding, cantus firmus has enjoyed great success performing a cappella concerts, passions, cantatas, symphonic concerts, and its own opera productions at Waldegg Castle. They have received invitations to the International Summer Academy for Early Music in Innsbruck, Migros Clubhouse Concerts, and the Bach Weeks in Amsoldingen. Their recording of J.-J. Rousseau's "Le Devin du Village" was released by the German label cpo and received excellent reviews from various international publications. Handel's "Apollo e Dafne" was released by the same label in 2011.
