Pintscher & Brahms

"The universe was, is, and will forever be an eternally living fire, burning and dying in a constant rhythm." Not only Heraclitus, but also Matthias Pintscher harbors a fascination with fire. His work "NUR" – Hebrew for "fire" – vividly depicts the course of a flame: from the tranquil candlelight to a raging inferno and finally to the dying embers. Piano and ensemble complement each other with their contrasting colors and, through chamber music skill, seem to merge completely. This skill is also needed in the last symphony of Johannes Brahms, who was often accused during his lifetime of producing symphonies that were merely glorified chamber music. He was also said to lack imagination, as his melodies and themes often emerged spontaneously from brief ideas. Yet therein lies his great strength: to make densely scored symphonies sound like chamber music and to unfold an entire work from short, unassuming motifs. A passionately ardent program with Matthias Pintscher in the dual role of composer and conductor.
