Meet Milena Marena

The after-work concerts are entering their next season: free admission, bar service, and a post-concert chat in the foyer with the star of the evening – Milena Marena. This sought-after soloist and chamber musician has been the principal cellist of the Musikkollegium Winterthur since the 2025/26 season. She will perform Robert Schumann's romantically lyrical Cello Concerto, composed during a period of high productivity and mental illness. An iconic work of cello literature, it demands both virtuosity and sensitivity from its soloist. Refinement also characterizes Joseph Haydn's famous London Symphony "The Miracle." Its premiere, with Haydn himself conducting, is said to have captivated the audience. Leo McFall and the musicians of the Musikkollegium Winterthur are thus following in some very large footsteps. Why does the symphony bear the nickname "The Miracle," and what was the significance of Schumann's mental state? You will learn this and more at the moderated concert.
