Presenting a concert side by side with musicians of the Musikkollegium Winterthur – that is the Audience Orchestra. After intensive rehearsals and under the direction of chief conductor Roberto González-Monjas, an exciting program will be presented.
Diaghilev himself saw potential in Manuel de Falla's hugely successful pantomime based on the novel "El sombrero de tres picos" and encouraged him to create a full ballet from it. Although a sensation in London, the reception was ambivalent: some criticized the modernist portrayal of the Spanish character, while others praised the ironic use of traditional folk melodies.
Equally Spanish in flair is Georges Bizet's Carmen Suite. Full of folkloric elements and fiery rhythms, it is now an absolute audience favorite, after the opera's premiere in Paris was a failure. Its major breakthrough only came with the performance at the Vienna Court Opera. Unfortunately, Bizet did not live to see the triumphant success of his "Carmen."
The program is completed by Launy Gröndahl's Concerto for Trombone and Orchestra, composed especially for the outstanding brass section of the Casino Theater Orchestra in Copenhagen, where he himself was a member.
