Komische Oper Berlin: GMD Gaffigan extends

James Gaffigan will remain General Music Director of the Komische Oper Berlin for another three years. The American conductor extended his contract, which was originally set to run until 2027, until 2030, as announced by the Senate Department for Culture on Friday. Starting with the 2027/28 season, he will also become Music Director of the Houston Grand Opera (HGO) in the US state of Texas.

The decision to extend his contract with the Komische Oper Berlin is based "on my deep conviction that it is one of the most important opera houses in the world today," Gaffigan explained. "Even though I am now beginning a new chapter at Houston Grand Opera, it remains important to me to maintain my close relationship with the Komische Oper Berlin. Although the two houses are very different, they share the same artistic values ​​and an uncompromising commitment to excellence."
