Schola Cantorum Wettingensis

Schola Cantorum Wettingensis

The Schola Cantorum Wettingensis, a 70-year-old concert choir from Wettingen, consistently delights audiences with magnificent concerts, primarily in the Baden-Wettingen region. That we, as an amateur choir, achieve this is thanks to the meticulous preparation of the works under professional direction, with a focus on vocal technique and choral sound, as well as collaborations with professional soloists, orchestras, and instrumentalists.

In its long history since its founding in 1949 by the Wettingen physician and musician Oscar Spörri, the Schola has experienced many highlights. Under the direction of Alois Koch (1971-1991) and Konstantin Keiser (1991-2010), among others, the Schola became well-known far beyond the Baden-Wettingen region through performances in Salzburg and Forli, the Tonhalle Zürich, the KKL Luzern, the Philharmonie Berlin and the Auditorium Stravinsky in Montreux, and in 2006 received the recognition award of the «Aargauische Stiftung für Gesang und Musik» for «its wonderful vocal culture, the exciting and varied programs and the courage to perform regularly on tour».

Under the direction of Roland Fitzlaff (2010-2018), the collaboration with Tanz & Kunst Königsfelden on the highly acclaimed performances of "babel torre viva" (2013), the performances of Franz Schubert's "Mass in A-flat major" in Lucerne and Königsfelden (2014), Felix Mendelssohn's "Paulus" in Baden and Wettingen (2015), the enthusiastically received "Petite Messe solennelle" by Gioachino Rossini in the Wettingen Abbey Church (2016), and the performances of Georg Philipp Telemann's "The Death of Jesus" in Zurich, Wettingen, Solothurn, Basel, and Baden in collaboration with the Telemann Society of Switzerland (2017) deserve special mention.

Since July 2018, Stefan Müller has directed the Schola Cantorum Wettingensis. The first performance with the new conductor in the Reformed Church of Fislisbach, featuring works by Moritz Hauptmann, Felix Mendelssohn, and Richard Wagner, was a resounding success.

Regular concerts of this high caliber are not possible without the support of public institutions, patrons, and sponsors. We are deeply grateful to them all.
