Aarau Orchestra Association
History:
The Aarau Orchestra Society (OVA) was founded in 1889, making it one of the city's most traditional associations. In its 1964 anniversary publication, the then-mayor, Urech, described the OVA as "one of the leading pillars of our city's musical life." The old concert programs contain many great names in classical music, such as Yehudi Menuhin, Aïda Stucki, Arthur Grumiaux, Henryk Szering, and Clara Haskil.
Activities:
The Aarau Orchestra Society is an ensemble that brings together passionate and inquisitive amateur musicians from the Aarau region to rehearse challenging orchestral works. Its members are inspired and challenged by music, enjoy accompanying (primarily young) soloists, and strive—with ambition, but without ruthlessness—for a musically compelling result. The OVA's concert programs include established works from the Baroque, Classical, and Romantic orchestral repertoire, as well as lesser-known and—carefully selected—more recent pieces.
Goals:
To make music together, to develop and perform three concert programs per year under professional direction.
