Chamber Orchestra of Basel Chemistry KOBC
We are a small amateur chamber orchestra. We play music from the Baroque period to the 20th century, with a particular focus on music from the early Classical to the High Romantic era. Our current concert size is around 20 musicians.
We perform approximately two concerts annually at different venues.
The conductor/concertmaster is a professional musician.
We rehearse weekly (excluding school holidays) in a common room at the Novartis plant in St. Johann. The space allows for split rehearsals. For each concert, we hold a rehearsal weekend in the same rooms.
Traditionally, many of our members are current or former employees of the chemical industry or spouses of employees. However, the orchestra is open to everyone, depending on suitability and need. We are currently seeking to expand our ensemble with string and wind players.
We prefer young professional musicians as soloists for our concerts.
We are supported by the major pharmaceutical companies in the region.
