Basel Madrigalists
The ensemble performs regularly at renowned festivals. Numerous concert tours have taken the Basel Madrigalists beyond Europe to Russia, the USA, Lebanon, and the Far East. Since its founding in 1978 by Fritz Näf, the ensemble has recorded around 30 albums, and regular radio and television appearances and concerts both in Switzerland and abroad demonstrate its diverse, active, and highly regarded musical career. A particular highlight was the invitation, as the first and only Swiss ensemble, to the 4th World Symposium of Choral Music and World Choir Festival in Sydney (performances at the Sydney Opera House and other concerts), as well as a related tour with concerts in Brisbane (Australia), Hong Kong, and South Korea.
Under the new artistic direction of Raphael Immoos, the Basel Madrigalists performed at the Berlin Festival and the Lucerne Festival, among others, in 2014. In collaboration with Musica Fiorita (Daniela Dolci, director) and the Swiss Musicological Society, works by the Swiss composer Valentin Molitor (1637–1713) were recorded on CD for the first time that same year. In recent years, the ensemble has enjoyed close cooperation with Carus-Verlag Stuttgart (music publisher and CD production), with whom they have recorded four CDs.
The Basel Madrigalists have their own concert series and actively participate in Swiss and international cultural life.
