Bach Weeks Thun

Bach Weeks Thun

The name Johann Sebastian Bach stands for the highest quality. It also represents tradition and innovation. The Thun Bach Weeks were founded 37 years ago in the over 1,000-year-old Romanesque church in Amsoldingen and have since embodied the values of their namesake: quality, tradition, and innovation.

The Thun Bach Weeks festival takes place annually over two weekends starting at the end of August in the churches and concert halls of the Thun region. Around ten first-class concerts, ranging from classical to jazz, are offered, featuring a carefully curated selection of regional and international artists. The concert programs and music education offerings present the works of Johann Sebastian Bach in the context of other composers and are aimed at music lovers of all ages, as well as those unfamiliar with classical music and young people.

The Thun Bach Weeks are supported by the Bachfriends Thun: a network of individuals, businesses, and companies that enjoy collaborating with the festival on a regular basis. Since July 2016, the artistic direction has been in the hands of the Steffisburg-based harpsichordist Vital Julian Frey.
