Franz Schubert, Symphony No. 4 in C minor, D. 417 “Tragic”;
Mel Bonis, Suite en forme de valses;
Leó Weiner, Serenade, Op. 3 in F minor.
Beethoven’s gripping overture to Goethe’s “Egmont” opens the concert of the Frauenfeld City Orchestra under the direction of Konradin Herzog, musically illuminating the triumph of freedom. This is followed by Schubert’s “Tragic” Symphony No. 4, in which the young composer combines classical forms with personal expression. Mel Bonis’ elegant “Suite en forme de valses” and Leó Weiner’s spirited Serenade with Hungarian influences round off this varied concert.
