program

A percussive firework display at the Tonhalle Zurich:

She is a bundle of energy on the drums, igniting a veritable firework display of musicality on stage. As a central figure in the lineage of Martin Grubinger, Vivi Vassileva occupies a special spotlight. She uses this position to expand the repertoire for solo percussion, as well as in combination with other instruments. When the sonic enchantress Vassileva weaves her countless instruments, including marimba, tubular bells, timpani, and bongos, with the sounds of the orchestra, the audience can look forward to magical moments. Together with the London-based conductor Stephanie Childress and the Zurich Chamber Orchestra, she presents Conjurer, a concerto for percussion by the leading American composer of our time, John Corigliano.

Nadia Boulanger described Igor Stravinsky as a harbinger of musical modernism, as can be read in numerous letters from their 48-year friendship. Rightly so, as his work Apollon musagète, inspired by antiquity, proves.
