program
Two composers, one birth year, and very different legacies: While Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart remains one of the most famous composers in music history, Joseph Martin Kraus is hardly known to many music lovers. Yet Kraus was also born in 1756 and left behind a distinctive and expressive body of work.
Under the title "The Swedish Mozart," the Basel Chamber Orchestra, violinist Alina Ibragimova, and Kristian Bezuidenhout as conductor and continuo player will explore these two contemporaries in the Rheinfelden town church. Kraus's dramatic overture to the incidental music for "Olympie" and his Symphony in C minor will be juxtaposed with Mozart's Third Violin Concerto, the Adagio for Violin and Orchestra, and "Eine kleine Nachtmusik," K. 648. The program opens a fascinating dialogue between two musical personalities and invites the audience to rediscover an extraordinary composer.
