program
Vocal ensemble tempo d'affetto and the Friday Academy present Passiontide music by Johann Sebastian Bach, Jan Dismas Zelenka, Antonio Lotti, and Gottfried Heinrich Stölzl.
Few names are as closely linked to the history of Protestant church music as that of Johann Sebastian Bach. Besides his cantatas and Passions for St. Thomas Church in Leipzig, Bach also composed Latin masses for the Catholic court in Dresden, where his colleague Jan Dismas Zelenka was responsible for church music and, in this capacity, created magnificent masses and stirring penitential psalms. The Friday Academy combines the works of Bach and Zelenka with sacred music discoveries by Antonio Lotti and Gottfried Heinrich Stölzl to create an ecumenical Passiontide program.
