program
The rollercoaster of emotions is part of the DNA of Baroque music. In this program, singer Marie Claude Chappuis, together with the Freitagsakademie, explores the extremes of human emotion, from Judas' despair over his betrayal of Jesus in Telemann's powerful setting to the most profound joy in Bach's wonderful cantata BWV 170, "Vergnügte Ruh, beliebte Seelenlust" (Pleasant Rest, Beloved Delight of the Soul).
Program:
Johann Bernhard Bach (1676–1749): Overture No. 4 in D major; Georg Philipp Telemann (1681–1767): from the Brockes Passion, Judas' recitative and aria; Antonio Vivaldi (1678–1741): Concerto in G minor for oboe, cello, strings, and basso continuo; Largo from the Concerto in C minor for oboe, strings, and basso continuo RV; Domine Deus from Gloria RV 589. Johann Sebastian Bach (1685–1750): Cantata BWV 170 «Vergnügte Ruh, beliebte Seelenlust» for alto, oboe d'amore, strings and basso continuo.
