Traditional works for the shakuhachi flute and improvisations.
From the void, the written word emerges in the hands of calligrapher P. Jean-Sebastien with artful strokes, sometimes flowing, sometimes with sharp angles and edges. Although this writing is silent, each letter has its own rhythm, its own breath, its own sound. Those who listen closely experience this sound in the moment when something lasting arises from nothingness on the paper. Acoustically amplified and projected onto a screen, you will witness a fleeting moment in which silence resonates and art is born.
The calligraphies enter into a dialogue with the shakuhachi, the Japanese bamboo flute, played by Jürg Zurmühle. The Japanese tradition of shakuhachi playing defies our rational understanding and language, touching us at our very core. It is music on the inner path to stillness.
