program
Swiss soprano Regula Mühlemann is now conquering international concert halls. She will be performing for the first time with Daniel Hope and the Zurich Chamber Orchestra.
The festive season finale features a program that includes not only the most beautiful Mozart arias but also songs by sisters Lili and Nadia Boulanger. In the second half of the program, the orchestra bids farewell with Joseph Haydn's Funeral Symphony before its summer break. Composed around 1770, this work is one of the five symphonies from this period in which Haydn first used minor keys. The name derives from a dubious tradition according to which Haydn once expressed the wish that the Largo of this very symphony be played at his funeral. The Funeral Symphony, with its tension and passion, exemplifies this aesthetic phase of upheaval in Haydn's work.
