The 1931 silent film "City Lights" is a tragicomedy in which Charlie
Chaplin, as the Tramp, embarks on adventurous escapades through urban landscapes. The Tramp falls in love with
a blind flower girl, whom he helps to have her eye operated on. After numerous twists and turns, in
which the Tramp tries his hand at boxing, befriends an alcoholic millionaire, and
imprisoned, the two finally find each other. With the production of "City Lights," Chaplin committed an
anachronism that carried considerable risk. Since the rise of sound films, the general
public had considered silent films old-fashioned. But the risk paid off: "City Lights" became Chaplin's greatest
triumph of his career to date and is still considered a masterpiece of film history.
Sir Charles Chaplin is one of the most important comedians of the 20th century. As the film
unfolds on the big screen, the 50-member City Light Symphony Orchestra plays Charlie Chaplin's film score in perfect sync.
Step back in time with Charlie Chaplin to the bustling 1930s and let yourself be enchanted by this timeless film classic!
