program
The Art of the Piano Trio:
The Polish master trio presents works ranging from Bach and Beethoven to Mendelssohn and Rachmaninoff. Ludwig van Beethoven's program includes one of his earliest compositions, which he considered fully valid: the beautiful Trio in C minor, published as part of Opus 1 and later arranged for string quintet. Felix Mendelssohn composed his Trio Op. 66 as a birthday present for his sister Fanny. According to Mendelssohn himself, it is "a bit unpleasant to play," but it boasts sonorous melodies, choral allusions, and a touch of fairy magic.
Program:
Ludwig van Beethoven (1770–1827)
Piano Trio in C minor, Op. 1 No. 3;
Johann Sebastian Bach (1685–1750)
Air from Orchestral Suite No. 3 in D major, BWV 1068
;
Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy (1809–1847)
Piano Trio in C minor, Op. 66;
Sergei Rachmaninoff (1873–1943)
Vocalise, Op. 34, No. 14
