Star soloists in a quartet:
Two identically scored works with only a 15-year "age gap." Two Eastern European composers, both deeply rooted in the Romantic sound world – and yet this brilliant program offers us entirely different musical languages. On the one hand, there is Tchaikovsky's pupil Sergei Taneyev, who wrote the piano part himself, and whose work, right up to the seemingly technical fugue in the third movement, boasts vibrant emotionality. And on the other hand, there is the texture of Antonín Dvořák's Second Piano Quartet, Op. 87, which also offers a firework display of emotions, but above all invites the listener to revel in its beauty. Featuring a stellar lineup: violinist Hyeyoon Park, violist Timothy Ridout, cellist Kian Soltani, and pianist Benjamin Grosvenor, who, as Ensemble 2023, were described in a review as a "married bliss."
