program
The end of night meets the end of time: Late into the night, the evening concludes in a music cellar with Olivier Messiaen's Quatuor pour la fin du Temps. Vibrant birdsong rises above the tragic circumstances of its creation in a prisoner-of-war camp. Amidst an apocalyptic setting, Messiaen resists and makes the secret Book of Revelation musically audible. He offers solace to his fellow human beings – then as now, and until the end of time.
