Delphine von Schauroth (1813-1887) was a prodigious talent and became a successful pianist. Despite three marriages and long interruptions, her musical career spanned approximately 50 years.
As a virtuoso, she was mentioned in the same breath as Clara Schumann, Franz Liszt, and Felix Mendelssohn. During her lifetime, only her 'Songs Without Words' were published, which were enthusiastically reviewed by Robert Schumann in the 'Neue Zeitschrift für Musik'. Dr. Ingrid Bodsch's engaging concert introduction recounts interesting facts and anecdotes about this forgotten, highly gifted composer and contemporary of Chopin.
