Rossini's spirited overture to "Il Barbiere di Siviglia" meets Christopher Ball's tongue-in-cheek "Scenes from a Comedy" and the delicate, shimmering timbres of Debussy's "Petite Suite." The concert concludes with Mozart's "The Magic Flute." Takénori Némoto's arrangement beautifully showcases the five distinct timbres of flute, oboe, clarinet, horn, and bassoon, allowing the familiar melodies to shine with renewed brilliance.
Since its founding in 2019, the Nortada Quintet has been passionately dedicated to the fascination, versatility, and beauty of chamber wind music. The five musicians share a joy in making music together, as well as a commitment to vividly and nuancedly expressing diverse soundscapes, eras, and musical characters.
At the heart of their concert activities are programs that connect familiar and less familiar works, creating musical links across stylistic and period boundaries. The Nortada Quintet utilizes the unique tonal palette of its instrumentation—flute, oboe, clarinet, horn, and bassoon—ranging from transparent, delicate chamber music sounds to almost orchestral richness.
In addition to its concert projects, the Nortada Quintet also develops its own programs for children and families. This outreach is integral to the ensemble's mission: to make classical music accessible to a diverse audience in a direct, engaging, and high-quality manner.
