program
The lives of singers in the Baroque era were a restless adventure – endless journeys, new cities, new roles. But instead of learning everything anew each time, they became resourceful: they simply took their most successful arias with them – the legendary "arie di baule," the suitcase arias. Thus, sparkling masterpieces traveled from stage to stage, generating enthusiasm and providing a platform for breathtaking virtuosity. Amidst vanity, rivalry, and admiration, musical sparks flew – for example, in the works of George Frideric Handel, Nicola Antonio Porpora, and Johann Adolph Hasse. Julia Lezhneva's "angelic" (New York Times) voice, with its astoundingly flawless virtuosity, is considered the prima donna of Baroque singing in our time. No singer could be a more fitting protagonist for this program than she!
