The final subscription concert brings the series full circle: back to classical tradition. With the Quatuor Arod and clarinetist Joe Christoph, two ARD Prize winners share the stage, united by youthful energy and a rich tonal palette. The French quartet's meteoric rise even led to the silver screen, where their thoughtful balance of technical mastery and ensemble playing was captured in a documentary. Fanny Mendelssohn's String Quartet – a powerful female voice of Romanticism – is flanked by Haydn's witty narrative and, finally, Brahms' Clarinet Quintet, one of the most intimate chamber music works ever written, a musical amen. Not fireworks, but ardor.
