The fourth gala concert combines Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy's popular Hebrides Overture with three works whose unstoppable energy unleashes veritable cascades of sound upon the audience.

Joan Tower's Noon Dance creates fascinating, swirling, and undulating soundscapes, and Franz Schubert's Quartet Movement draws the listener into the dramatic music with the powerful pull of the opening tremolo.

Felix Mendelssohn completed his Third Piano Quartet shortly before his 16th birthday. It impresses with its brilliant piano part in the fast movements—the dramatic opening movement, the ethereally shimmering Scherzo, and the exhilarating Finale with its virtuosic pianistic effects—interrupted only by the yearning, song-like Andante.
