An evening between shadow and embers: Franz Schubert’s unfinished String Trio is like a musical flash of inspiration, tentative, questioning, and imbued with delicate poetry. In its refined three-part writing, one feels as if listening to the composer inventing. Mendelssohn’s Piano Trio then takes center stage, a work that Robert Schumann praised as a “master trio of our time.” Stormy passion, songlike intimacy, an elfin-like flitting Scherzo, and a passionately triumphant Finale. And then Brahms: His Piano Quintet bursts the boundaries of chamber music with symphonic force. Between an intimate homage to Schubert and passionate clusters of sound reminiscent of Wagner’s “Tristan” harmonies, music of eruptive intensity emerges. A prelude that opens the Boswil Summer 2026 with full expressive power!
