program
In its current project, the nzük (Neues Ük) brings together "Bachian" Baroque tone paintings and "Buchenbergian" colorful contemporary soundscapes in a dialogue.
The human search for orientation and the oscillation between the fear of death and the comfort of faith permeates the music of this concert evening. The Baroque works reflect a reality in which the awareness of one's own mortality, now largely absent, was omnipresent: "Learned, rich, young, or beautiful—all must depart"—thus opens the concert with the double-choir motet "Unser Leben ist ein Schatten" (Our Life is a Shadow) by Johann Bach (1604–1673).
Wolfram Buchenberg's (*1962) Four Sacred Songs alternate with Johann Sebastian Bach's (1685–1750) Kyrie from the Missa brevis in F and the motet "Jesu, meine Freude" (Jesus, My Joy). These works proclaim the gift of freedom, vitality, and joy in a life lived in the spirit of Christ. While Johann Bach's (1604-1673) aria "Weint nicht um meinen Tod" (Weep not for my death) offers solace from the perspective of the departing, Buchenberg's "Von 55 Engeln behütet" (Protected by 55 angels) makes the letting go of a loved one tangible through ethereal sounds. A blessing is sent on a waving journey into the unknown…
The performance will be accompanied by Vincenzo Allevato on the organ, and by Roberta Szklenár (soprano), Keiko Enomoto (soprano), Isabel Pfefferkorn (alto), Tamás Henter (tenor), and Serafin Heusser (bass).
