program
This program is a moving homage by contralto Benedetta Mazzucato, paying tribute to the feminine spirit and the emotional world of women. Each of the selected Baroque arias represents a specific feeling – from love and anger to revenge, self-sacrifice, and maternal instinct. With this, Mazzucato also wishes to commemorate her female ancestors – real or imagined – who inspired her and have always accompanied her on her journey. She calls the concert "a hymn to truth, to sincerity, to the unvarnished honesty of the human heart." The arias sung by Benedetta Mazzucato are primarily from operas by Handel and Vivaldi, beginning with Bradamante's furious revenge aria "Vorrei vendicarmi" from Alcina. The same Bradamante expresses loyalty, steadfastness, and hope in "Io son ne' lacci tuoi" from Vivaldi's Orlando Furioso. In contrast, Arsilda's heart is troubled and sorrowful in "lo sento in questo seno," while Galatea seeks solace in "Se m'ami, o caro." Revenge is once again invoked in "Saprà delle mie of fese" from Handel's Xerxes. "Così potessi anch'io" is a longer, classical lament from Alcina, again from Vivaldi's Orlando Furioso. Finally, amidst her heartbreak, Irene finds a glimmer of hope in "Par che mi nasca in seno" from Handel's Tamerlano. The program is a moving portrait of various female characters and emotional states, a journey into the depths of the heart. Benedetta Mazzucato is accompanied on this journey by the La Cetra Baroque Orchestra under Andrea Marcon.
