Theresienmesse in B-flat major, Hob. XXII:12.
The Zurich Boys' Choir is one of Switzerland's most important choirs. Since its founding in 1960 by Alphons von Aarburg, many distinguished conductors, such as Herbert von Karajan, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, John Eliot Gardiner, Franz Welser-Möst, Charles Dutoit, and David Zinman, have sought to collaborate with the ensemble. The choir thrives on the spontaneous enthusiasm and joy of music-making of its young members and has been captivating audiences for over 60 years.
Together with the Camerata Zürich, a distinguished chamber orchestra under the artistic direction of Esther Hoppe, the Zurich Boys' Choir will perform Joseph Haydn's Theresienmesse in Einsiedeln Abbey Church.
The Mass in B-flat major is among Haydn's most intimate and lyrical late masses, as it requires only a small orchestra. This is due to the limited resources of the local orchestra in Eisenstadt. The mass was first performed there in September 1799. With its beautiful sound, this music creates a moving moment of reflection during the Advent season.
