About the interview

Zurich Chamber Orchestra

Founded in 1945 by Edmond de Stoutz, the Zurich Chamber Orchestra (ZKO) is today one of the leading ensembles of its kind. Under the direction of Edmond de Stoutz, and later Howard Griffiths and Muhai Tang, the ensemble achieved international acclaim. During the era of the world-renowned Principal Conductor Sir Roger Norrington, from 2011 to 2015, the Zurich Chamber Orchestra further solidified its outstanding reputation.
Regular invitations to international festivals such as the BBC Proms at London's Royal Albert Hall, guest appearances in major music centers, concert tours throughout Europe, the USA, Asia, and South Africa, as well as numerous critically acclaimed recordings, attest to the Zurich Chamber Orchestra's global renown. Its repertoire is wide-ranging, spanning from Baroque (performed in a historically informed manner on gut strings and with Baroque bows) through the Classical and Romantic periods to contemporary music. The Zurich Chamber Orchestra continually draws attention to itself through the rediscovery of forgotten composers and regularly launches special crossover events combining art, literature, jazz, pop, and folk music. The promotion of young instrumentalists and the organization of children's concerts for all age groups are just as important to the Zurich Chamber Orchestra as its ongoing collaborations with renowned international soloists.
