The Friday Academy
There is no such thing as "early music"! True to this credo, the Freitagsakademie performs music from the 17th to the early 19th centuries in a wide variety of ensembles and on instruments from the respective era. In addition, they present innovative programs
that even span the arc from tradition to the present day.
Regular collaborations with artists from various other disciplines – such as contemporary dance, visual arts, literature, and puppetry – are also integral to the ensemble's identity. The vibrant interpretation of old masterpieces in dialogue with other art forms
often leads to surprising connections and unique artistic experiences.
This concept, conceived by artistic director Katharina Suske, has resonated widely and received enthusiastic support: With its numerous concerts and recordings, the Freitagsakademie has been a prominent presence on the Swiss and
international music scene for many years.
In 2017, the Freitagsakademie was awarded the prestigious Diapason d'Or de l'Année for its CD recording "Wiener Klassik" (Viennese Classics).
