About the interview

La Chapelle Ancienne – Orchestra with historical instruments

The period-instrument orchestra La Chapelle Ancienne was founded in 1999 by musicians who had studied historical performance practice at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis or abroad. Their shared goal is to perform works of the Baroque, Classical, and Romantic periods on the instruments for which this music was written. This allows them to achieve a transparent and expressive sound and a rich palette of tonal colors.

La Chapelle Ancienne has established a reputation for its sensitive accompaniment of choirs and soloists. The orchestra's repertoire ranges from the rediscovery of early Baroque music through the great oratorios of the Baroque and Classical periods to exciting world premieres.

The musicians of La Chapelle Ancienne regularly perform with the Collegium Musicum Grossmünster.
