"Sounding Light," an oratorio in extended tonality for seven vocal soloists, choir, youth choir, instrumental ensemble, organ, and percussion.
The five Chagall windows in the Fraumünster Church inspired the composer to create this oratorio. The biblical passages underlying the stained-glass motifs form the textual basis. It is a major work of music in extended tonality: the solo voices and instruments perform using the fundamental intervals of 1 1/8 fourth, 1 3/8 sixth, and 14/8 seventh, which lends the music an unexpected vibrancy and richness of color: Sounding Light.
