program

“I am a musician because there is nothing that gives me more joy.” – Paul Handschke.

When Dvořák was summoned to America in 1891 to help the composers of the young nation create their own “national music,” no one suspected that this would result in his most popular symphony – the Ninth Symphony. In his search for an authentic American sound, he found inspiration precisely in the victims of the American Dream: the spirituals of African Americans and the sounds of Indigenous peoples. These impressions, as well as the grandeur of New York and the vastness of the Midwest, found their way into his music. In Paul Handschke’s arrangement for six cellos, it acquires a unique timbre. The program is complemented by narrative music from Miklós Rózsa, master of cinematic soundscapes, and Astor Piazzolla, whose music thrives on dance, melancholy, and memory.

Program:
Miklós Rózsa (1907–1995)
Sonata for 2 Violins, Op. 15a;
Astor Piazzolla (1921–1992)
Tangos for Violin and Double Bass, arranged by A. Wiebecke-Gottstein
- J'attends (Se Fue Sin Decirme Adios)
- La Misma Pena
- Saint Louis en L'Île
- Adios Nonino;
Antonín Dvořák (1841–1904)
Symphony No. 9 "From the New World", version for 6 cellos, arranged by Paul Handschke.
