program

To open the first chamber concert, Swiss pianist Oliver Schnyder, together with musicians from the argovia philharmonic, presents Gabriel Fauré's Piano Quartet No. 1 in C minor. As a response to the development of German chamber music, the composer succeeded in creating a piece full of warmth and optimism. Vitality and balance in all parts make the piece a masterpiece of chamber music to this day. Nearly half a century later, Ernst von Dohnányi composed the Sextet in C major, Op. 37, for clarinet, horn, violin, viola, cello, and piano. Above all, the affinity with Brahms in form and style is a dominant feature of the entire work. The movements are characterized by distinct personalities – from the sonata-like quality of the first movement to the marching Adagio of the Intermezzo and the finale with its clear hints of jazz.
