Salzburg Philharmonic
The Salzburg Philharmonic was founded in 1998 by conductor Elisabeth Fuchs and has captivated audiences ever since. The orchestra is convinced that "music touches the soul," and this is achieved through exceptional programming and the infectious joy of the performers.
The Philharmonic is versatile. It performs with top soloists such as Juan Diego Flórez, Rolando Villazón, Olga Scheps, Nikolai Tokarev, Ferhan & Ferzan Önder, Pacho Flores, Andreas Martin Hofmeir, and Benjamin Schmid; it also grooves with jazz and world music from ECHO Award-winning Quadro Nuevo, Per Arne Glorvigen, Henry Threadgill, Reena Winters, Maria Bill, and the Klazz Brothers; and it presents literary concert evenings with renowned actors such as Iris Berben, Cornelius Obonya, and Philipp Hochmair.
The Salzburg Philharmonic performs over 100 orchestral concerts annually and regularly appears in Salzburg's concert halls – the Salzburg Festival Hall, the Salzburg Felsenreitschule, the Great Hall of the Mozarteum, and the Great University Hall.
Its repertoire ranges from classical and romantic works to composers such as Igor Stravinsky, Benjamin Britten, John Adams, and Arvo Pärt. The orchestra also captivates audiences with cross-projects like "Best of Hollywood," "Broadway Meets Hip Hop," "The Next Level – Concert with DJs and Acrobats," "Game Music Meets Poetry Slam," and "Soul Meets Classic."
The orchestra has performed multiple times at the Salzburg Festival, the Musica Riva Festival, the Vienna Musikverein, the Vienna Konzerthaus, the Brucknerhaus Linz, the Congress Center Villach, the Kurhaus Wiesbaden, and the Tonhalle Düsseldorf, as well as in major cities throughout China. In addition to its classical and romantic concerts, the orchestra is committed to making a significant contribution to audience development.
Therefore, in cooperation with the Children's Festival, the orchestra offers many children, teenagers, and families an introduction to the world of classical music through interactive symphonic concerts and workshops. Furthermore, the orchestra initiated the apprentice concerts at the Großes Festspielhaus (Great Festival Hall), which now inspire 4,000 young people annually in Salzburg and also tour to Linz, Graz, and Künzelsau.
