program
Alfred Schnittke: Piano Quartet (1988);
Robert Schumann: Piano Quartet in E-flat major, Op. 47.
Duration approx. 75 minutes, no intermission.
Tickets: CHF 0-35.
Following the enthusiastically received debut of the Wendel Quartet in September 2025, the four young musicians will present, in addition to the popular Piano Quartet by Robert Schumann, the short Piano Quartet by Alfred Schnittke, which is based on a fragment by Gustav Mahler.
The concert begins with the second Piano Quartet by the French fin-de-siècle composer Mel Bonis, which stands in the tradition of César Franck and Gabriel Fauré. This beautiful work from 1927 is like a chamber music testament from the composer, who, despite her turbulent, even cinematic, biography, left behind a comprehensive and high-quality body of work encompassing piano, organ, and chamber music, as well as songs and choral music.
